PRETZELS

1 pkg yeast                                     1 c warm water

¼ c sugar                                       2 T margarine, softened

1 tsp salt                                          3 ¼  c flour

  • Dissolve yeast in warm water using large mixing bowl.
  • Add sugar, margarine, salt, and 2 c flour.
  • Beat until smooth.
  • Stir in enough remaining flour to form stiff dough.
  • Knead until smooth and elastic.
  • Place in greased bowl, turning once to grease top.
  • Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  • Punch dough down.  Preheat oven to 400.
  • Divide into 8 pieces.
  • Roll each into a 20” rope.
  • Shape and place on greased cookie sheet.
  • If salt is wanted – wet finger and run finger over pretzel.  Sprinkle with coarse salt.
  • Let rest 5 minutes.  Bake 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
