Buttermilk Biscuits
2 c flour 1 T baking powder
1/4 tsp soda 1/2 tsp salt
1/3 c shortening 3/4 c buttermilk - 2 tsp lemon juice or vinegar plus milk
Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
In large bowl mix flour, powder, soda and salt.
Cut in shortneing untilmixture resembles coarse crumbs. Make a well and add milk.
Using a fork, stir JUST until mixture forms a soft dough that leaves the side of the bowl.Turn onto lightly floured surface and knead 6-8 times (NOT MORE).
Roll dough about 1" thick.
Cut and place on ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
